This Hall has been designed to accommodate very large groups for student assemblies, gymnastics, exam, dance, and P.E., and rehearsal and performance activities including drama and dance. There is a raised platform with step access, and performance lighting and a sound system to support performances. There is potential to display whole school, class and student work and to host activities including public performances, school dances, art shows and community meetings. The capacity to explicitly teach and demonstrate to large groups at assemblies and communal meetings is possible. The Hall also supports a variety of learning settings and can be configured to support multiple sets of individual/paired through to very large groups. Depending on the teacher’s plan and furniture available, there is some scope for the teacher to modify the Hall during a session to support collaboration, social interaction and active investigation activities.
FURTHER OPPORTUNITIES
There is an optional large horizontal bi-fold door to a Covered Outdoor Space which would allow teachers to create alternative learning settings for more diverse learning processes including small and large assemblies, performances, creative and investigative learning activities and structured play. Community out of hour use of facilities will be improved through security access and hall proximity to the school car park. In order to facilitate community use toilets should be provided.
LEARNING IMPLICATIONS
Consideration will need to be given to acoustic and spatial implications depending on the number and size of groups and the types of learning activities planned. Teachers planning investigate and construct activities would need to consider group capacity to transport materials and equipment to and from the Hall, and media and technology resources and activities that are not dependent on close wet area access. Activities that include discussion, reading and storytelling are not generally supported by this area and would be limited to supervised occasional activities.

Ratings against the Design Criteria

All criteria regarding spatial layout, fit-out, visibility and acoustics can be met.

Most criteria regarding spatial layout, fit-out, visibility and acoustics can be met. Some consideration will need to be given to determine whether constraints on ease of use, group size or materials will compromise the learning outcomes.

Few of the criteria regarding spatial layout, fit-out, visibility and acoustics can be met. A lot of consideration will need to be given to determine how the constraints on ease of use, group size or materials can be overcome.

Very few of the criteria regarding spatial layout, fit-out, visibility and acoustics can be met. This space should only be used for this learning mode as a last resort.

This space is incapable of supporting this learning mode.

This learning process is not employed with this size group.
