This seminar learning space provides a learning and social environment for up to four students. The suggested furniture promotes the use of the space as a quiet, withdrawal area and it can be used for focussed learning sessions for those requiring support. The room is designed for activities that include one to one conversation, discussion, reading and storytelling, explicit teaching and demonstrations as well as activities involving individuals in quiet reflection, research or consolidation.
FURTHER OPPORTUNITIES
This room lends itself to use as a Counselling Room, a dedicated Special Needs withdrawal space, an information technology laboratory, or a small research and investigate space. Vertical display areas and glazing would allow display of student work and provide natural lighting and/or vision to an adjoining learning space.
LEARNING IMPLICATIONS
Given the small size of the space and acoustic and spatial implications depending on the type of learning activities planned. Noise interference from the adjacent Independent Learning Space could be a factor if learning processes with different acoustic requirements are operated at the same time. Investigate and construct activities will be limited to those that require small media and technology resources and activities that are not dependent on close wet area access and durable surfaces.
Explore ideas, share and develop opinions, debate and decide.
This learning process is effective with small to large groups provided specific criteria can be met.

Ratings against the Design Criteria

All criteria regarding spatial layout, fit-out, visibility and acoustics can be met.

Most criteria regarding spatial layout, fit-out, visibility and acoustics can be met. Some consideration will need to be given to determine whether constraints on ease of use, group size or materials will compromise the learning outcomes.

Few of the criteria regarding spatial layout, fit-out, visibility and acoustics can be met. A lot of consideration will need to be given to determine how the constraints on ease of use, group size or materials can be overcome.

Very few of the criteria regarding spatial layout, fit-out, visibility and acoustics can be met. This space should only be used for this learning mode as a last resort.

This space is incapable of supporting this learning mode.

This learning process is not employed with this size group.
