The Library Main Area provides an adaptable learning setting for individuals, multiple small groups up to a very large group participating in a range of inquiry based learning activities, discussion, reading and storytelling, explicit teaching and demonstrations. There is ready access to resources and students can work individually or in small groups on research and reflective activities. Ready access to resources and an Information Technology Zone are provided. Flexible seating arrangements allow for classes to be organised into one area for a focused learning experience or for students to be distributed for various research and study opportunities. The area provides a very large learning space in which whole school and individual class and student work can be displayed, and where students can rehearse and perform.
FURTHER OPPORTUNITIES
A partitioned area would provide a bookable group learning space. AV monitors and data projectors, coupled with other technologies would enhance research opportunities and foster collaboration both within and beyond this learning area. Seamless access to ICT and integration of learning resources throughout the learning space would facilitate learning and connection anywhere, anytime and provide increased individual and small group research opportunities. This room also lends itself to other school and community uses subject to access to other necessary services and facilities.
LEARNING IMPLICATIONS
Given the size of the room and the number of tables and chairs available, consideration will need to be given to acoustic and spatial implications depending on the number and size of groups and the types of learning activities planned. In particular consideration will need to be given to the types of performance activities e.g. singing, poetry, drama and the number of groups included in the area completing other activities. The room does not generally support explore, investigate, create, fabricate and construct activities as there is no wet area or durable surfaces.
Explore ideas, share and develop opinions, debate and decide.

Ratings against the Design Criteria

All criteria regarding spatial layout, fit-out, visibility and acoustics can be met.

Most criteria regarding spatial layout, fit-out, visibility and acoustics can be met. Some consideration will need to be given to determine whether constraints on ease of use, group size or materials will compromise the learning outcomes.

Few of the criteria regarding spatial layout, fit-out, visibility and acoustics can be met. A lot of consideration will need to be given to determine how the constraints on ease of use, group size or materials can be overcome.

Very few of the criteria regarding spatial layout, fit-out, visibility and acoustics can be met. This space should only be used for this learning mode as a last resort.

This space is incapable of supporting this learning mode.

This learning process is not employed with this size group.
