This laboratory can support a variety of learning settings and has been designed to accommodate large groups for student fitness and other Health/PE activities. It is a shared multipurpose space which can be equipped with specialised equipment for physical fitness and/or used as an open space for exercise and wellbeing activities. The mandatory relationship with two General Learning Spaces separates the function of the specialised fitness facilities from general learning activities thus creating greater availability and more use of the specialist Laboratory.
FURTHER OPPORTUNITIES
This laboratory lends itself to a range of learning purposes including student meetings, assemblies and creative and investigative learning activities. The Workshop also lends to use as an afterschool activity space, a Special Needs physical therapy area and a staff, student and community recreation area e.g. yoga.
LEARNING IMPLICATIONS
Careful consideration should be given to the fit out of the laboratory for its intended purpose. If the laboratory is used as specialised Fitness Laboratory the required equipment will limit its functionality as an open fitness area. If the laboratory is intended to be used for gymnastics a timber sprung flooring is desirable. Given that the space is shared by two General Learning Spaces, negotiation of use between teachers and students will be required and consideration will need to be given to the acoustic and spatial layout demands of activities being conducted at the same time

Ratings against the Design Criteria

All criteria regarding spatial layout, fit-out, visibility and acoustics can be met.

Most criteria regarding spatial layout, fit-out, visibility and acoustics can be met. Some consideration will need to be given to determine whether constraints on ease of use, group size or materials will compromise the learning outcomes.

Few of the criteria regarding spatial layout, fit-out, visibility and acoustics can be met. A lot of consideration will need to be given to determine how the constraints on ease of use, group size or materials can be overcome.

Very few of the criteria regarding spatial layout, fit-out, visibility and acoustics can be met. This space should only be used for this learning mode as a last resort.

This space is incapable of supporting this learning mode.

This learning process is not employed with this size group.
