This room provides a multipurpose space with minimal desks and chairs for up to 10 people. It is configured to support seating plans for individual, paired and small and medium sized groups participating in learning experiences and learning and social support activities. Learning experiences will generally include activities which promote self-management through working either individually or in small to medium groups. The area can also be used for focussed learning sessions for those requiring support. Depending on the learning plan and furniture available, there is some scope to modify settings during a session. The Seminar Room is suitable for discussion, reading and storytelling, explicit teaching and demonstration activities. Students can work individually or in small groups on rehearsals, and research and reflective activities.
FURTHER OPPORTUNITIES
This room lends itself to dedicated use for a number of special purpose settings including a secure information technology zone. The inclusion of glass sliding doors between rooms would create ease of flow and greater access between learning spaces. The room can be used for individual and small group student, staff and communal learning and formal or informal meetings.
LEARNING IMPLICATIONS
If more than one small group is working in this room, consideration will need to be given to acoustics and spatial layout. Noise interference from the adjacent General Learning Space could be a factor if learning processes with different acoustic requirements are operated at the same time.
