This workshop provides a learning space for up to 24 students and one teacher. It is a shared multipurpose performance space equipped for creative and performing arts. Individual to large groups can participate in rehearse and perform activities including dance and drama activities.
The workshop can also be used for specific learning activities that include discussion, reading or storytelling; explicit teaching and demonstrations; and individual and small group research and reflective activities. Student work samples and learning resources can be displayed. The mandatory relationship with two General Learning Spaces separates the function of the specialised performance facilities from general learning activities thus creating greater availability and more use of the specialist workshop.
FURTHER OPPORTUNITIES
This workshop lends itself to a range of learning purposes including student meetings and creative and investigative learning activities. The workshop also lends to use as an afterschool activity space, a Special Needs physical therapy area and a staff or student recreation area e.g. yoga.
LEARNING IMPLICATIONS
Careful consideration should be given to the fit out of the workshop for its intended purpose. If the workshop is used for music the acoustic impact on the adjoining General Learning Spaces will limit the types of activities that can be conducted in this workshop. If the workshop is intended to be used as a dance space timber sprung flooring is desirable.
If more than one small group is working in this workshop, consideration will need to be given to acoustics and spatial layout. Noise interference from the adjacent General Learning Space could be a factor if learning processes with different acoustic requirements are operated at the same time. Investigate and construct activities will be limited to those activities that are not dependent on close wet area access and durable surfaces. Given that the space is shared by two General Learning Spaces, negotiation of use between teachers and students will be required and consideration will need to be given to the acoustic and spatial layout demands of activities being conducted at the same time.

Ratings against the Design Criteria

All criteria regarding spatial layout, fit-out, visibility and acoustics can be met.

Most criteria regarding spatial layout, fit-out, visibility and acoustics can be met. Some consideration will need to be given to determine whether constraints on ease of use, group size or materials will compromise the learning outcomes.

Few of the criteria regarding spatial layout, fit-out, visibility and acoustics can be met. A lot of consideration will need to be given to determine how the constraints on ease of use, group size or materials can be overcome.

Very few of the criteria regarding spatial layout, fit-out, visibility and acoustics can be met. This space should only be used for this learning mode as a last resort.

This space is incapable of supporting this learning mode.

This learning process is not employed with this size group.
